We want to ensure you feel confident using your Health Protector Guard plan, so we’ve rounded up the most common questions our members ask to help you get the most out of your coverage.

❓ Do I have to stay "in-network"?

One of the best features of this plan is flexibility. You can generally visit any doctor or hospital you choose. However, using the UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus network can often save you time and money because those providers have agreed to discounted rates for UHC members. 


❓ How do I file a claim?

When you present your ID card to your in-network provider, they file a claim with us, and UHC sends the benefit payment to them. The provider will apply the payment toward the amount you owe for the service provided. This, in addition to the network discount, helps to reduce your final bill and lowers your total out-of-pocket costs. If the eligible benefit payment is more than the cost of coverage, even after the discount, you will receive the difference mailed to you as a check from us. If you do not use a network provider, you can submit your claim directly to GoldenRule. You can submit your claim and find more information on UHCMemberHub.

If you need to file manually:

  1. Log in to your member portal at UHCMemberHub

  2. Upload your itemized bill (often called a "superbill").

    • This Superbill will include the following: the diagnosis code, CPT code, charged amount, provider information/credentials, and date of service. 

  3. We process the payment based on your plan’s set benefit schedule.


❓ What are my pharmacy benefits?

Your UnitedHealthcare Health ProtectorGuard plan includes a free prescription discount card.  Each time you fill a prescription, simply show your discount card to your pharmacist.  Download your card via the Optum Perks page. 


❓ How do I use my pharmacy benefits?

The first time you fill a prescription, provide your pharmacist with your HealthProtector Guard ID card, your Optum Perks Card, and the attached pharmacist letter.


❓ Do I have any additional benefits?

Your plan includes access to unlimited $0 virtual doctor visits through HealthiestYou. The telehealth benefit makes it easy to see a doctor without leaving home.
